J: A job opportunity in NYC L: After seriously considering turning our apartment closet into a sleeping alcove for our then 18 month-old, we decided it was time to join other friends and migrate to Maplewood. No one wakes up one morning and declares that being a single parent is a goal they had set in mind. There are numerous trials and tribulations a single parent goes through raising their children on their own.

There are a number of charities that have touched my heart; a few of them are Everytown for Gun Safety, Meals on Wheels, The ASPCA and The Alzheimer’s Association. I am passionate about working with kids, helping them build self esteem, self confidence and learn how to be their best selves, while giving them opportunities to learn new skills and showing them ways they can serve their community. Peter is a graphic designer and I’m an editor with an art history background.Learning how to take charge and be confident in your choices becomes second nature.By watching your parent navigate life making careful decisions on their own and rely on their own intuition instills a sense of independence.I date for the future, not just for fun because the loss of love hurts too much.I think about my future husband, and dream about how our children will love him. I take it all seriously, because I want what my mother didn’t have.
